***YOUR VOTE COUNTS***
Here is how I know that voting really matters.
Recently I attended a panel discussion on abortion rights in Arizona that included Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes. When the Arizona courts decided that the 1864 total abortion ban was the law of the land, Attorney General Mayes fought to get the decision overturned. When that failed, she fought to delay implementation of the law until the legislature was able to fix this travesty.
Now she is holding the line, refusing to prosecute when doctors perform medically necessary abortions to save women's lives in the case of miscarriage or other health conditions after the 15th week (Arizona's current limit on legal abortion.) She has made it clear that she will not prosecute while waiting for Arizona Prop 139 to restore pre-Dobbs rights.
Why am I telling you this? Why should this compel you to vote? What difference does your one vote make? Well, when Kris Mayes ran for Arizona Attorney General in 2022, with over 2.5 million votes cast, she won by... wait for it... 280 votes.
And that is why YOUR VOTE COUNTS. If 281 people in Arizona hadn't bothered to vote in 2022, women and girls in Arizona in need of reproductive medical healthcare would be dying right now, just as they are in Georgia and other states.
Please tell people, especially young people who have lost faith in the political process, that their vote counts.
I never ask people to share my posts, but this is too important. Please pass this along. Please let people know that 281 votes can mean the difference between life and death, liberty and oppression.
